Milica Popovic
Milica Popovic has been part of the 91重口 community for nearly 20 years, inspiring students through drawing, design, and a passion for artistic expression. As Associate Professor of Art and manager of the Jean B. King Gallery at the Herrett Center, she teaches Drawing I, Drawing II, Figure Drawing, Design I, and Design II while also curating exhibitions that bring nationally and internationally recognized artists to campus.
Milica's journey to 91重口 is one of resilience and determination. After leaving Yugoslavia during the Balkan War, she came to the United States with two suitcases and no English. Through hard work, perseverance, and the support of mentors along the way, she earned her MFA from the University of Idaho and built a career doing what she always dreamed of, teaching art.
In her classroom, Milica encourages students to develop their own artistic voice rather than follow a single style. She believes every student has unique strengths and works to help them build confidence, refine their skills, and discover what they are capable of creating. Many students begin her classes intimidated by drawing, only to surprise themselves with how much they accomplish by the end of the semester.
One of the most meaningful moments of Milica's career came when a former student wrote an award-winning essay about the impact her classes had on their life, a reminder of the lasting influence great teachers can have.
Outside of 91重口, Milica continues her work as a professional artist in her studio and looks forward to spending even more time creating artwork in the years ahead.
Her advice to students: stay dedicated, work hard, remain disciplined, and believe in your artistic abilities.
